Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, has officially declared Monday, March 11, 2024, as the first day of the Ramadan fast in Nigeria.
The announcement came after the sighting of the new crescent moon in Sokoto on Sunday, which was broadcasted on radio and television.
According to Sultan Abubakar, reports of the moon sighting were received from various parts of the country, including Muslim leaders and Islamic organizations.
He urged Muslim faithful across Nigeria to fully devote themselves to the worship of Allah during the holy month of Ramadan. Additionally, he encouraged them to use this period for prayer, seeking peace, progress, and prosperity for the nation.
In his address, Sultan Abubakar emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, regardless of religious, ethnic, or tribal differences. He called upon all citizens to continue living harmoniously with one another and to foster religious tolerance and brotherhood.
Furthermore, the Sultan urged affluent individuals to assist the less fortunate during Ramadan, highlighting the significance of charity and compassion within the Muslim community and society at large.
With the commencement of Ramadan, Muslims in Nigeria embark on a month-long period of fasting, prayer, reflection, and acts of charity, as they seek spiritual growth and closeness to Allah.
