The Lagos State Government says no fewer than 931 persons were apprehended for various waste management offences as part of ongoing environmental monitoring and enforcement operations across the state.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this while highlighting recent achievements recorded by environmental agencies in the state.
According to him, enforcement officials inspected 2,251 sites, issued 1,711 contravention notices, and sealed 239 facilities for violating environmental regulations.
Wahab also revealed that enforcement teams evacuated more than 650 tonnes of construction waste as part of efforts to maintain environmental sanitation and proper waste disposal practices.
He added that the state sustained public sensitisation campaigns on construction, demolition, and disaster waste management through stakeholder engagements carried out in partnership with waste care solutions providers.
The Commissioner further stated that the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency intensified environmental monitoring activities through the deployment of modern air quality monitoring systems across the state.
According to Wahab, LASEPA completed the installation of 114 air quality sensors and rehabilitated air pollution abatement facilities in different parts of Lagos.
He explained that the initiative is aimed at improving air quality management, reducing pollution levels, and protecting public health across the state.
