The Nigeria Immigration Service has warned Nigerians against leaving the country without valid travel documents, describing the act as illegal and dangerous.
In a public advisory shared on X on Monday, the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI AS Akinlabi, said all international travel must be undertaken with the appropriate immigration documents, including a valid passport, visa where necessary, and other approved travel credentials.
The agency stressed that attempts to evade official immigration procedures or use unauthorised border routes amount to a violation of Nigerian laws.
The Service also expressed concern over the increasing activities of fraudulent migration syndicates targeting unsuspecting Nigerians, especially youths, with fake promises of jobs, education, and improved living opportunities abroad.
According to the NIS, many of these illegal migration arrangements often lead victims into forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation.
It further noted that legitimate international travel processes do not bypass recognised immigration procedures or approved border entry points.
The agency urged Nigerians to verify travel and recruitment opportunities through official channels and avoid dealing with unregistered agents or individuals encouraging irregular migration.
The NIS also called on members of the public to report suspicious migration-related activities to the nearest Immigration Service office or relevant security agencies.
