A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to bar former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election.
Delivering judgment, Justice Lifu held that he was bound by the decision of the appellate court on the matter. The judge subsequently described the suit filed by the plaintiff’s lawyer, Jideobi, as “an abuse of court process.”
Justice Lifu also dismissed Jideobi’s application requesting the judge to recuse himself from the case, ruling that the motion was frivolous.
Jideobi had instituted the suit against Jonathan, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), listed as the first to third defendants respectively.
