Lagos State police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the buyer of a baby stolen by a house help in the Shomolu area of the state.
Police spokesman in the state, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed on Monday that the buyer abandoned the baby as the police dragnet was closing in.
The incident was brought to light by an X user identified as @Simmm_K, who raised the alarm in a Saturday post revealing that a house help had fled with her colleague’s baby between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. in Shomolu.
Following the post, a search for the missing baby commenced, with @Simmm_K sharing details of the house help and the baby, urging the police and the public to assist in the search. She even provided a contact number for information on the whereabouts of the house help or the baby.
In an update, @Simmm_K informed her followers that the house help had been arrested in Ikorodu but without the baby. The house help later confessed to selling the baby for N800,000.
Fortunately, the story took a positive turn as @Simmm_K later announced that the baby was found in the early hours of Monday in Shomolu. The police promptly rescued the infant and reunited her with her parents after a positive identification.
The police continue their efforts to apprehend the buyer and bring them to face the consequences of their actions.
