No fewer than 17 members of the House of Representatives have defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

The defections were announced during plenary on Tuesday, signaling a fresh wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Also disclosed on the floor was the defection of Leke Abejide, who moved from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lawmakers who joined the NDC include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande and Munachim Umezuruike.

Others are Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene and Abdulhakeem Ado.

The development comes just two days after former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Musa Kwankwaso, formally joined the NDC from the ADC, further boosting the party’s growing profile.
