President Bola Tinubu has condemned the killing of a teacher following the abduction of students, pupils, and staff members from schools in the Esiele community of Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State.
The President described the incident as tragic and assured residents that the Federal Government is working closely with the Oyo State Government and security agencies to secure the safe rescue of all victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Bandits reportedly invaded the community last Friday, attacking Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School, where several victims were kidnapped.
Tinubu sympathised with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the affected families, and the people of the state over the incident, while commending security operatives for their swift response.
According to the President, the Inspector-General of Police has deployed tactical and Intelligence Response Team (IRT) operatives to lead a technology-driven rescue mission aimed at tracking down the kidnappers and their collaborators.
The President also reiterated his support for the establishment of state police, saying the growing cases of kidnapping across the country highlight the urgent need for decentralised policing to better secure underserved communities.
