The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with stakeholders in addressing the issue of quackery in the state’s health sector, considering it a significant threat to the health and wellbeing of citizens.
Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, made this assertion during a Stakeholders Engagement meeting organized by the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) at the Lagos Government Secretariat.
Ogunyemi emphasized the grave implications of allowing unqualified individuals to practice medicine without proper credentials, highlighting the potential risks posed to public health. She underscored the government’s determination to tackle this menace by working closely with relevant stakeholders to uphold the integrity of the health system.
The meeting convened to address various issues concerning the registration and renewal processes for health facilities, as well as the pressing concern of potential increments in registration fees. Additionally, the persistent challenge of quackery within the healthcare landscape was a focal point of discussion.
Ogunyemi emphasized the importance of registration and renewal processes as essential pillars of accountability and professionalism within the healthcare sector. By ensuring that health facilities adhere to regulatory standards and operate with qualified personnel, the government aims to enhance the quality of healthcare services and protect the interests of patients.
