Bandits’ Camps Destroyed As Troops Intensify Katsina Offensive After General’s Death

Troops have intensified offensive operations against terrorists and bandits across parts of Katsina State following the death of a former Director of Defence Information, who reportedly died while in captivity after being abducted alongside his wife by armed criminals.

The Katsina State Government on Saturday confirmed that the retired senior military officer died in captivity due to complications arising from diabetes and hypertension while being held by bandits.

The deceased officer was buried on Sunday at about 6:00 p.m. at the Gidan Dawa Cemetery opposite his residence in Katsina metropolis, following funeral prayers attended by family members, military personnel, government officials and a large crowd of mourners.

In response to growing security concerns, military authorities said troops have sustained aggressive operations targeting terrorist and bandit enclaves across the state.

According to the military, troops involved in the ongoing operation have continued to conduct fighting patrols, intelligence-driven raids, cordon-and-search missions and clearance operations in several identified criminal hideouts within the Joint Operations Area.

The military disclosed that significant breakthroughs were recorded during recent operations around the Dikkawa Hills and adjoining communities known for criminal activities.

“Clearance missions conducted in Adua, Nasarawa, and Karaduwa led to the discovery and destruction of several terrorist hideouts, logistics bases, and other life-support structures used by the criminal groups, further weakening their operational capabilities,” the statement read.

Military authorities added that the destruction of the camps and logistics networks is expected to disrupt the operational strength of the armed groups and limit their ability to launch attacks on surrounding communities.

The statement further noted that the operation is being carried out in collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders as part of broader efforts to restore peace and improve security across Katsina State.

According to the military, the support and cooperation from residents, community leaders and local vigilante groups have continued to play a vital role in ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
