Hollywood’s Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards announced its 2025 nominees on Wednesday, with Wicked, the musical prequel to The Wizard of Oz, emerging as the top contender with five nominations.
The highly anticipated film, directed by Jon M. Chu, earned nods for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, as well as individual nominations for stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Jonathan Bailey.
The Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown followed closely with four nominations, including a Best Male Actor nod for Timothée Chalamet’s portrayal of the iconic singer-songwriter. Both films will compete for the SAG award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, alongside Emilia Perez, Conclave, and Anora.
Emilia Perez, a Golden Globe-winning musical drama about a Mexican drug lord’s gender transition, features Karla Sofia Gascon, who received a nomination for her transformative lead performance.
Conclave, a gripping political drama about the papal selection process, and Anora, a story centered on a sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch, round out the competitive ensemble category.
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s performances as Glinda and Elphaba in Wicked earned them individual nods for Best Female Actor, while Jonathan Bailey, who plays Fiyero, secured a nomination for Best Male Actor. Timothée Chalamet’s work in A Complete Unknown and Gascon’s portrayal in Emilia Perez were also singled out in acting categories.
