Presidency Says Nigeria to Save N10billion From Reduced COP29 Expenditures

The Presidency has announced plans to cut down on Federal Government’s spending during the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), taking place in Bau, Azerbaijan in November 2024.

Briefing State House Correspondent yesterday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, revealed that having learned from the mistakes of COP28 in the year 2023, the Government has put in place a Climate Accountability and Transparency Portal to ensure all delegates to COP29 is properly documented and of significant need to the direct mandate of country and to ensure efficient use of resources.

Our Correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that the Presidential Spokesman further disclosed that the government also plans to cut down on unnecessary consultancy fees, irrelevant Delegates sponsorships and subcontracts for pavilions and other technical provisions, stating that these will now be handled directly by the National Council on Climate change, revealing further that these prudent measures by the President Bola Tinubu administration will save the country over 10billion naira.
