The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Mohamed Marwa (Rtd), highlighted significant achievements in the agency’s ongoing battle against drug-related crime in Nigeria.
Brig Gen Marwa revealed that over the past 38 months, the NDLEA had made remarkable strides, including the arrest of 50,901 drug offenders, among whom were 46 key players in the illicit drug trade.
Furthermore, he noted that 9,034 of these offenders had been successfully convicted, signaling a decisive blow to drug cartels and their kingpins.
The NDLEA chairman emphasized that these actions had sent a clear message to drug syndicates operating within Nigeria: that the country would not tolerate their criminal activities. This resolute stance, coupled with the seizure of over 7,561 tonnes of illicit substances, underscored Nigeria’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse.
During the commissioning and handing over ceremony of a new operational facility donated by the British government, Brig Gen Marwa expressed gratitude for the invaluable support extended by the UK in Nigeria’s fight against drug proliferation.
He highlighted the pivotal role played by British officials in facilitating the realization of the project and called for the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and the UK in tackling drug-related challenges.
In response, representatives of the British government reiterated their commitment to supporting NDLEA’s efforts, particularly in maritime security.
