In a ceremony marked by grandeur and anticipation, Monday Okpebholo was inaugurated as the new governor of Edo State on Tuesday, signaling a new chapter in the political landscape of the South-South region.
The historic event took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, a venue packed with dignitaries, party loyalists, and enthusiastic residents eager to witness the dawn of a fresh administration.
The inauguration comes two months after the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victory in the gubernatorial elections, positioning Okpebholo and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, to lead Edo State’s executive branch. This electoral win ushered in an era of change, effectively ending Godwin Obaseki’s six-year tenure as governor.
Taking the oath of office, Governor Okpebholo expressed his deep gratitude to the people of Edo State for entrusting him with their mandate. He pledged to uphold the constitution and lead with transparency, unity, and a commitment to progress.
In his inaugural speech, the new governor highlighted key areas his administration would prioritize, including economic development, security, youth empowerment, and infrastructure.
“Our victory at the polls was a testament to the collective aspiration for change and progress,” Okpebholo said. “Today, we embark on a journey to build a better, more prosperous Edo where every citizen feels the impact of growth and good governance.”
Dennis Idahosa, the newly sworn-in deputy governor, also took his oath during the event.
In his remarks, Idahosa expressed his readiness to work closely with Okpebholo to ensure that their administration delivers on the promises made during the campaign.
“This is a responsibility I accept with humility and dedication. I am committed to working tirelessly for the betterment of our state,” he noted.
