Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has earmarked ₦5 billion for the construction of a 14,000-bed permanent site at Agbowa, Ikorodu.
This announcement was made during the passing out parade of 4,277 corps members at the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Iyana-Ipaja on Tuesday.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also announced a ₦100,000 gift for each corps member passing out from the camp, along with a ₦100 million allocation for NYSC support staff in Lagos State.
“This year alone, I will be putting available a total of ₦5 billion that will be used to start the full development of the permanent site for NYSC.
For this batch, with all sense of responsibility and because you have been very hardworking, each and every one of you will go home with ₦100,000,” he stated, adding that the money would be deposited into their accounts by next week.
The Lagos State Government had previously allocated land in Agbowa, Ikorodu, for the construction of a permanent NYSC orientation camp. Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his commitment to completing this project before the end of his administration, asserting that NYSC deserved a permanent orientation camp in the state.
Additionally, the governor promised automatic employment to 100 corps members who excel in their national service.
“Lagos is ready to help you and work with you. The best part of your life is still ahead of you. Make sure you put in everything that is required because, indeed, the world is waiting for you, Africa is waiting for you, Nigeria is waiting for you, Lagos is waiting for you,” he encouraged the outgoing corps members.
Earlier in the event, Yetunde Baderinwa, the NYSC Coordinator in Lagos State, emphasized the important role of NYSC in contributing to the economic stability of Lagos. She assured that corps members would be deployed across various sectors in the state and urged them to accept their postings with patriotism, dedication, and diligence.
Baderinwa also reminded the corps members to adhere to the rules and regulations of the scheme, warning that any infractions would be penalized according to NYSC bye-laws.
