In a move to mark the joyous occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, April 11, 2024, as an additional public holiday.
The statement, shared on the ministry’s official X account on Tuesday, confirms the approval of April 11th as a public holiday specifically designated to commemorate Eid-el-Fitr for the year 2024.
The declaration of the additional public holiday follows the announcement by Saudi Arabia on Monday, confirming that the crescent of Shawwal, which marks the end of Ramadan, had not been sighted. This indicates that fasting would continue on Tuesday for Muslims in Nigeria and around the world.
The statement further clarifies that Eid-el-Fitr, the festival marking the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the new Islamic month, will be observed on Wednesday, April 10th.
