The Federal Government has initiated the demolition of properties affected by the right of way of the Lagos-Calabar super highway, starting from the Lagos end. Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, officially flagged off the exercise over the weekend, emphasizing that it would be executed with empathy and a human touch.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser (Media), Orji Uchenna Orji, in Abuja yesterday, the minister highlighted the significance of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway in the government’s roadmap towards economic diversification. He emphasized that the construction of this highway would be a major milestone in advancing the Renewed Hope agenda.
During the flag-off ceremony, Minister Umahi stated, “This demolition is going to have a pure human face.”
He expressed his commitment to executing the exercise with the utmost fear of God and gratitude to God Almighty. He also underscored his dedication to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, particularly in infrastructural development.
The purpose of the demolition is to clear the right of way within the coastal corridor, which is deemed the legitimate right of the Federal Government.
Minister Umahi reiterated the necessity of acquiring this right of way to facilitate the construction of the Lagos-Calabar super highway, which is poised to enhance connectivity and foster economic growth across the region.
