Donald Trump has named right-wing Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate in the US presidential election.

The 78-year old Trump, announced his pick on the first day of the Republican Party convention in Milwaukee, few days after an assassination attempt on him.

The 39-year-old Vance embraces Trump’s anti-immigration America First movement.

One of the least experienced Vice President candidates in modern history, the one-term senator is further to the right than the ex-president on many issues including abortion, where he embraces calls for federal legislation.
