CJN Swears in 11 New Justices to Supreme Court Bench

Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Olukayode Ariwoola administered the oath of office to 11 new Justices, officially welcoming them to the esteemed bench of the Supreme Court.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the nation’s highest court, marks a pivotal moment in the legal landscape of the country.

Among the newly appointed Justices are distinguished legal professionals who bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their new roles. Notable among them are Jummai Hannatu Sankey, Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa, Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme, Haruna Simon Tsammani, and Moore Aseimo A. Adumein. Their appointments reflect a commitment to diversity and meritocracy in the Nigerian judiciary.

In his address to the newly sworn-in Justices, CJN Justice Olukayode Ariwoola emphasized the importance of integrity and impartiality in dispensing justice. He urged them not to allow personal ambition to cloud their judgment, reminding them of the solemn responsibility entrusted to them as guardians of the rule of law.

Furthermore, Justice Ariwoola cautioned the new Justices against succumbing to external pressures or influences, emphasizing the need to uphold the principles of fairness and equity in all their deliberations. He stressed the importance of allowing conscience to guide their decisions, especially when faced with contentious legal matters.

Acknowledging the challenging nature of their new roles, Justice Ariwoola encouraged the Justices to brace themselves for criticism and verbal attacks from disgruntled litigants. He reminded them of the high expectations placed upon Justices of the Supreme Court and urged them to remain steadfast in the face of adversity.

In closing, the CJN commended the new Justices for their dedication to their craft and their demonstrated passion for hard work. He affirmed that their elevation to the Supreme Court bench is a testament to their commitment to judicial excellence and their invaluable contributions to the legal profession.
