The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has announced plans to conduct an investigative public hearing aimed at addressing the recurring incidents of grid disturbances that have caused widespread power outages across the country.
The announcement was made on Saturday through NERC’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
According to the commission, the public hearing aims to identify both the immediate and underlying causes of these disturbances, with the ultimate goal of finding a lasting solution to the challenges plaguing Nigeria’s national grid system. The hearing will provide a platform for a wide range of stakeholders, including industry experts, consumers, and government representatives, to share insights and suggest solutions to the persistent power disruptions.
The commission acknowledged that recent months have seen an increase in grid disturbances, leading to significant power outages that have impacted many states across Nigeria. These disruptions have negatively affected businesses, households, and critical infrastructure, heightening public concern over the stability of the national grid.
“NERC has noted with concern the recent escalating incidences of grid disturbances, which have often resulted in power outages across multiple states. We are committed to identifying the root causes of these disturbances and working towards a permanent resolution to ensure a more reliable power supply for all Nigerians,” the commission stated.
NERC also indicated that the date and venue for the public hearing will be announced in national newspapers to ensure widespread awareness and encourage participation.
