The Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to drivers regarding the use of improper or covered number plates, cautioning that vehicles found in violation of this regulation risk being impounded.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, conveyed this warning in a statement released on Friday in Lagos. The statement, signed by the ministry’s Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing security and enforcing traffic regulations within the state.
Osiyemi highlighted that motorists engaging in such practices are in contravention of sections 15 and 16 of the State’s Transport Reform Law (TSRL) of 2018. He stressed the importance of prominently displaying valid, unobstructed number plates in compliance with the law, stating that failure to do so would result in strict penalties, including fines and possible vehicle impoundment.
Citing Section 16 of the TSRL of 2018, the commissioner reiterated that driving a vehicle without proper registration or identification mark constitutes an offense.
The commissioner further urged motorists to voluntarily comply with and adhere to the state’s traffic rules and regulations, underscoring the importance of collective efforts in ensuring road safety and security for all residents of Lagos State.
