In a significant milestone, construction giant Julius Berger has formally handed over the multi-billion naira Second Niger Bridge project to the Federal Government. The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, expressed his satisfaction with the project during a brief ceremony at the bridge’s toll area.
Umahi commended Julius Berger for efficiently carrying out repairs on vandalized portions of the bridge, marking a crucial step towards its completion. He further announced that the bridge is now open to concession, inviting private companies willing to undertake the completion of ancillary roads, toll collection, and recouping investments.
The Minister hinted at ongoing efforts to devise strategies that will alleviate traffic congestion at both the old and new bridges during the upcoming festive period. As the 1.6-kilometer-long bridge connects Anambra and Delta states, these measures aim to enhance the flow of traffic and ensure a smooth travel experience for the public.
