House of Reps Urge INEC To Clean Up Its System Of Dead & Fictitious Registered Voters

INEC to introduce Computer-Generated Slips for voter's accreditation

The House of Representatives has asked the INEC to develop a system to delete dead voters from the voters register, opined from irregularities observed during the 2023 general elections..

Correspondent Nathan Williams reports that a member, Leke Abejide, who moved for this under the motion of urgent national importance, said his late father’s name was seen in the INEC register.

However countering the motion, Hon. Ossai Nikolas Ossai had downplayed the motion being urgent, while in response, the deputy Speaker Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase – who presided – had upheld the motion to be deliberated upon.

In its resolve, the lawmakers further urged the electoral commission to deregister any voter who doesn’t vote in two election cycles.

Earlier, the House earlier directed the National Assembly clerk to transmit the bill for constitution amendment to provide for uniform retirement age for judicial officers and pension rights to President Muhammadu Buhari.
