Nigerian rapper YCee has spoken openly about his battle with bipolar disorder, revealing that he has lived with the condition since 2020 and describing the struggle of finding adequate mental health care in Nigeria.

The 33-year-old said returning from London exposed the country’s shortage of psychiatrists and mental health professionals, making it difficult to access consistent treatment and support. He noted that many Nigerians facing mental health challenges often struggle to find qualified specialists, receive timely diagnoses or afford long-term care.

YCee said his diagnosis changed the way he views life and highlighted the need for greater awareness and investment in mental health services. According to him, conversations around mental health remain limited in Nigeria, leaving many people to battle their conditions in silence or without the help they need.

The rapper also revealed that the condition significantly affected his music career, contributing to his extended break from the industry and limiting the promotion of his 2021 project, Love Drunk. He said sharing his experience is aimed at encouraging more open discussions and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.
