Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to abandon the planned nationwide protests set to commence on August 1, 2024.
Speaking at a wedding ceremony in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, Shettima emphasized the importance of unity and focused development for the nation’s progress.
The Vice President, who served as the Special Guest of Honour at the event where the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al Amin El-Kanemi, gave out four of his daughters in marriage, underscored the destructive nature of protests.
“Protest has never been a solution for nations to solve their challenges,” Shettima stated. “It is rather an avenue for the destruction of human lives and properties. I implore all our youths not to follow the path of anarchy and destruction.”
Highlighting President Tinubu’s commitment to addressing the nation’s longstanding challenges, the Vice President assured Nigerians that the administration’s efforts would soon yield significant improvements.
“President Tinubu feels the pulse of the nation and remains committed to making the nation’s challenges, mostly inherited over the years, a thing of the past,” Shettima remarked.
He urged citizens to maintain their faith in the Federal Government, promising that the administration’s initiatives would soon reposition Nigeria as a powerful economy with robust social welfare.
Reflecting on the gradual return of peace to Borno State, Shettima praised the efforts of the local government and encouraged continued support for Governor Babagana Zulum.
“We have had enough challenges in Borno, in the subregion, and the nation as a whole. This is a time for unity, this is a time for focused development. For the people of Borno, I ask them to rally round our governor, who is working tirelessly to address our developmental deficits and bring succour to the downtrodden.”
In a personal gesture of goodwill, the Vice President participated in the wedding ceremony, personally giving out one of the Shehu’s daughters’ hand in marriage. He wished the newlywed couples a blissful marital life.
Vice President Shettima reiterated the administration’s dedication to improving the welfare and lives of Nigerians, assuring that President Tinubu’s government would leave no stone unturned in its efforts.
“There can never be development without peace; there can never be peace without development,” he concluded, calling on Nigerians to embrace peace and unity for the nation’s advancement.
