US President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden has been found guilty on all three charges in his federal gun trial, becoming the first son of a sitting US president to be criminally convicted.
The 12-person jury found the 54 year old Hunter, lied about his drug use on a form when purchasing a handgun in 2018.
The high-profile trial comes as his father runs for re-election in a tight race this November with Donald Trump, who rejected any suggestion that the trial of his political opponent’s son showed the US justice system to be politically impartial, after he too was last month convicted of falsifying business records in New York City,.
Hunter Biden now faces a possible prison term of up to 25 years, although a sentence of that length for a first-time offender is highly unlikely. But his legal troubles have yet ended, as Hunter is also charged in a separate criminal case with evading $1.4m in taxes between 2016-19 while spending millions on drugs, escorts and luxury cars.
