Troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade, operating under Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI, have foiled an attempted ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along the Buni Gari–Buratai axis in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Mohammed Goni, the troops were conducting a routine patrol along the axis when they encountered the suspected terrorists.

The soldiers reportedly responded decisively to the attack, forcing the terrorists to withdraw from the area in disarray.

Following the encounter, military reinforcements were deployed to the location. The troops subsequently cleared the ambush site and conducted further operations in the surrounding area to prevent the attackers from regrouping.

During the operation, the troops discovered and dismantled several makeshift camps believed to have been used by the terrorists as temporary staging areas and hideouts.

The military said the operation also led to the recovery of a motorcycle, bicycles, a magazine, ammunition and rocket-propelled grenade bombs.

The Nigerian Army said no military personnel were killed or injured during the encounter. However, some military vehicles sustained damage during the engagement.

Despite the damage to the vehicles, the troops remained operational and successfully completed the mission, according to the military.

The latest operation forms part of ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to disrupt terrorist activities and prevent armed groups from establishing freedom of movement and operational bases across communities in the North-East.

The military said the operation demonstrates the determination of troops to deny terrorist elements freedom of action, disrupt their activities and protect civilians and property within the theatre of operations.

It added that the general security situation within the area of responsibility remains calm but unpredictable, with troops maintaining aggressive patrols and conducting coordinated security operations.

The military has also urged residents and other members of the public to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious movements, persons or activities to the appropriate security agencies.
