The Traditional Religion Worshippers’ Association has called upon both Federal and State Governments to establish schools dedicated to teaching traditional religious knowledge as a subject.
The aim is to imbue the younger generation with a profound understanding of Yoruba culture and tradition.
During a gathering in Ibadan, the state capital, Fayemi Fakayode, the Secretary of the Oyo State branch of the association, issued a statement advocating for the integration of traditional religious knowledge into primary and secondary school curricula, mirroring the teaching approach of Islamic Religious Knowledge and Christian Religious Knowledge.
Fakayode emphasized the necessity for proper education to dispel misconceptions and enlighten the younger generation about Yoruba history and heritage. He noted that the misinformation prevalent among Africans regarding their origins and culture has led to various erroneous perceptions about traditional religion.
Speaking from his position as the Founder of Olodumare’s Temple of Light International, Fakayode stated, “We made this call during the installation of two Brazilians, Awoyomi Fakayode and Iyanifa Ifatayo Obemo as Mayegun and Yeye Mayegun of Ìjọ Ìmọ́lẹ̀ Olódùmarè Àgbáyé, respectively, on Sunday at Alade Town in the Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.”
The installation ceremony served as a platform to advocate for the preservation and promotion of Yoruba culture and traditions, highlighting the significance of incorporating traditional religious knowledge into the educational system.
