President Bola Tinubu has urged African countries to present a united front against the ongoing xenophobic attacks in South Africa, describing the violence against fellow Africans as unacceptable.

Addressing the 69th ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government meeting in Freetown through Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu called on ECOWAS to take the matter to the African Union, saying a collective condemnation would send a clear message that such intolerance has no place on the continent.

The President revealed that Nigeria has evacuated more than 1,490 citizens from South Africa in seven batches and remains ready to take additional measures to ensure the safety of its nationals.

Tinubu also reminded South Africa of the support it received from countries, including Nigeria, during the struggle against apartheid, urging it to uphold the values of African unity and solidarity.

He further reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to regional integration and urged West African leaders to strengthen cooperation in tackling insecurity and unconstitutional changes of government across the region.
