President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed plans to establish state police forces to combat insecurity in Nigeria, assuring citizens that the country is on the path to recovery.
Speaking at an Inter-Faith dinner with governors on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu emphasized the need for robust security measures to tackle the challenges facing the nation, saying “To those unemployed, what I promise is that we will establish State Police to combat securities.”
President Tinubu who lauded the governors for their efforts in driving progress in their states, charged them to do more in providing essential services to citizens.
Mr President also stressed the importance of empowering Local Government and the need to enhance local government autonomy.
Earlier, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, representing the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) Chairman, commended President Tinubu for fostering national unity amid religious and ethnic tensions during an interfaith breaking of fast. He described the gathering as divinely inspired.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Governors and some Deputy Governors and several cabinet members were also present at the gathering.
