Tinubu Rejects Fresh Scramble For Africa, Pledges To Strengthen ECOWAS

President Bola Tinubu has strongly opposed the notion of a new scramble for Africa, as various countries including China, the United States, Russia, France and Iran, are establishing new blocs between them and the continent.

Speaking on Sunday, in Nairobi -Kenya, at the Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (5th MYCM) of the African Union (AU), the Regional Economic Communities (RECs), the Regional Mechanisms (RMs), and the African Union Member-States, President Tinubu called for good governance, to ensure a prosperous future for Africa, free from the exploitations of the past.

While reaffirming Africa’s unity and strength, the President warned that past plundering and exploitation of the continent should never be repeated.

In his statement titled: “Address on Status of Regional Integration in ECOWAS”, president Tinubu announced plans to strengthen the ECOWAS Standby Force to deter coups and combat terrorism in the sub-region, and emphasised the need for Africa to work towards a prosperous future, focusing on inclusive growth, good governance, and leveraging the opportunities provided by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
