President Bola Tinubu has approved plans to add 500 CNG refuelling stations nationwide, aiming to drive down transport costs and expand access to cheaper fuel.

Tinubu announced the plan after meeting with state governors, who agreed to take immediate steps to reduce transport fares by promoting cheaper energy options such as CNG and electric vehicles.

The new stations will raise the Federal Government’s planned nationwide CNG network to 1,000 outlets.

Tinubu said CNG-powered vehicles can spend 60–80% less on fuel than petrol vehicles, and he wants Nigerians to feel those savings through lower transport costs.

The President and governors will also create a joint committee to implement measures aimed at reducing fares, with state governments playing a key role in easing intra-state transportation costs.

The expansion forms part of Tinubu’s broader strategy to reduce energy and transport expenses while advancing the government’s post-subsidy economic reforms.
