President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a new salary structure for members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, with pay increases ranging from 30 to 80 per cent, effective September 1, 2026.

General Christopher Musa (Rtd) praised President Bola Tinubu for the approval, describing it as a major step towards improving troop welfare and boosting morale.

Under the new package, personnel from the ranks of Private to Staff Sergeant will receive an 80 per cent increase, officers from Warrant Officer to Colonel will get 50 per cent, while senior officers above the rank of Colonel will benefit from a 30 per cent raise.

The salary review will affect about 250,000 military personnel and increases the annual military wage bill from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion.

General Musa said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to supporting troops involved in operations against terrorism, banditry and kidnapping, while also strengthening ongoing efforts to improve military welfare, equipment and operational capacity.
