President Bola Tinubu has commended Team Nigeria for its impressive performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, describing the athletes’ achievement as a reflection of dedication, resilience and national pride.
Nigeria finished the Games as the highest-ranked African nation and placed seventh overall on the medals table after winning 24 medals — 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze.
In a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the athletes, coaches and support staff for representing the country with distinction throughout the competition.
Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports development, promising continued investment in sporting infrastructure, institutions and athlete development to help Nigerian talents compete successfully on the global stage.
He described the team’s performance as one of Nigeria’s strongest outings at the Commonwealth Games and a reward for the hard work and sacrifice of everyone involved.
