The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the stranded Super Eagles players who were previously stuck in Lagos and Abuja have finally arrived in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the stranded Super Eagles players who were previously stuck in Lagos and Abuja have finally arrived in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State.

Ademola Olajire, the Director of Communications for the NFF, made this announcement in a statement, revealing that a quintet of players comprising defenders Semi Ajayi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Calvin Bassey, midfielder Frank Onyeka, and forward Paul Onuachu have successfully made their way to the
country.

According to Olajire, these players were en route to Uyo to join the 15 other players who were already present for the Super Eagles’ preparations ahead of Friday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.

The delayed arrival of some players had been attributed to challenges in joining the rest of the team at the training camp, primarily due to the striking labour unions that had caused the shutdown of the country’s airports on Monday.

The arrival of the stranded players in Uyo brings relief to the coaching staff and team management, ensuring that the squad is now complete and able to focus on their upcoming crucial fixture.

The NFF and relevant authorities have worked tirelessly to facilitate the smooth transportation of the players amidst the challenges posed by the airport closures. With the team now united in Uyo, all attention is directed towards intense training sessions and tactical preparations to ensure optimal performance in the upcoming match.

Fans and supporters of the Super Eagles eagerly anticipate a strong showing from the team as they strive to secure valuable points in their quest for qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
