AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, says he will not establish an official First Lady office if elected president in 2027.
Sowore made the statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, arguing that the position of First Lady is not recognised by the Nigerian Constitution.
He said his presidency would not affect his marriage but maintained that his wife would not occupy an official government position because of his election.
Sowore said women would still play significant roles in his administration, but questioned the use of public funds to maintain what he described as an unconstitutional office.
He also promised to cut the cost of governance by ending security votes allocated to state governors.
According to Sowore, his proposed reforms, alongside measures to tackle corruption, could save the country about ₦4 trillion.
He acknowledged that ending security votes would require constitutional changes, arguing that public funds currently placed at governors’ discretion should instead be directed towards state responsibilities, including payment of workers’ salaries and development projects.
