South Africa Takes Over Hosting of 2026 WAFCON After Morocco Pulls Out

South Africa will host the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after Morocco withdrew just 60 days before the tournament.

Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Peace Mabe announced the decision at the Super League Awards in Johannesburg, confirming that South Africa has taken over hosting duties.

The tournament will run from March 17 to April 3, 2026, feature a 16-team format, and serve as a qualification route for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

South Africa brings recent experience, having hosted and won the WAFCON title in 2022, despite the short preparation window.
