Solid Minerals Ministry, NIMC Partner to Boost Mining Governance

The Federal Government has strengthened efforts to reform Nigeria’s mining sector through a new partnership between the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Solid Minerals Development Minister Dele Alake said integrating digital identity into the sector will improve governance, security, transparency and regulatory oversight, while supporting ongoing reforms.

Alake added that reliable identity data is critical for effective planning, investment and accountability across the mining value chain.

NIMC Director-General, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, said the collaboration will enable better data sharing among government agencies, improve compliance, strengthen monitoring of mining operators and support the implementation of Community Development Agreements in host communities.
