Senate Denies DSS Invasion of NASS Over Alleged Impeachment Moves

President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has dismissed rumors that the Department of State Services (DSS) has taken control of the National Assembly to prevent an alleged impeachment plot against him.

During Wednesday’s plenary session, Akpabio described the social media reports suggesting that DSS operatives were present to thwart his removal as baseless.

These rumors emerged after an online news outlet reported on Tuesday that the presence of DSS agents within the National Assembly had increased. The report further claimed that some discontented Northern Senators, dissatisfied with President Bola Tinubu, were reviving efforts to oust Akpabio from his position.

In response to the allegations, Akpabio directed the Senate Committee on Special Duties to investigate the claims and deliver a report within 24 hours. He also criticized certain online platforms for using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to fabricate misleading stories about him in a bid to attract more online traffic.
