Sanwo-Olu Orders Demolition Of Jankara, Bombata Markets In Lagos Island

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu has ordered the demolition of the Bombata and Jankara markets to ground zero, as part of his administration’s effort to regenerate Lagos Island.

While briefing newsmen after an inspection tour on Sunday, the Governor attributed the flooding challenges in the area to illegal construction of buildings and shanties on drainage channel which has constituted annual menace in the area.

The governor therefore called for attitudinal change of all residents and traders to complement government’s efforts at sanitizing the state of environmental challenges.

Our Correspondent reports that Sanwo-Olu also hinted that the Ministry of the Environment will begin issuance of Notices to Traders and Squatters, especially at Pelewura Market as well as brainstorm with the Concessionaire and the Council authority to determine when the evacuation and demolition of the Market will commence.
