Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday inaugurated the remodeled J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History in Onikan. The center, which houses a museum showcasing historical, artistic, and cultural artifacts of the Yoruba people, is a key component of the governor’s initiative to revitalize the cultural heritage of the state.
Speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of preserving Yoruba culture and history. He stated, “This museum will now be a historic site that will talk about our history and culture, so JRandle is our attempt at bringing back that heritage and showcasing it to the world.”
The governor also appointed Qudus Onikeku as the Director of the center. Onikeku, a renowned dancer and choreographer, is expected to bring his expertise to the center and elevate its cultural offerings.
The J. Randle Centre is a significant landmark in Lagos and has been restored to its former glory. The renovation project included the restoration of the historic building, the creation of modern exhibition spaces, and the development of educational programs.
