President Bola Tinubu announced that he will soon present the 2024 Supplementary Budget for legislative consideration.
The announcement was made during a session marking the Silver Jubilee of Nigeria’s 4th Republic and the first anniversary of the Tinubu administration.
“I submitted the last budget to you,” President Tinubu reminded the Assembly. “You expeditiously passed it. We are walking the talk. I will soon bring the Year 2024 (Supplementary) Appropriation Bill. That is just for your information.”
The prompt passage of the previous budget highlights the cooperative relationship between the executive branch and the legislature under Tinubu’s administration.
The President’s anticipation of similar cooperation for the upcoming supplementary budget was echoed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. “Thank you, Mr President, we will be expecting the Supplementary Appropriation Bill of 2024 as soon as possible,” Akpabio responded, indicating the Senate’s readiness to expedite the review process.
This joint session was not only a commemoration of Nigeria’s democratic journey but also a reflection on the Tinubu administration’s achievements over the past year. It provided a platform for both the executive and legislative branches to reinforce their commitment to collaborative governance.
In a symbolic gesture during the session, President Tinubu confirmed “Nigeria, we hail thee” as the country’s latest national anthem.
He stated, “You rang out the latest national anthem, ‘Nigeria, we hail thee’. This is our diversity, representing all characters and how we blend to be brothers and sisters.”
