President Tinubu Directs Revival of Nigeria Air Project

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, to focus on two critical priorities: reviving the Nigeria Air project and elevating airport standards across the country.

Dr. Kana revealed these directives during his first meeting with ministry staff and heads of aviation agencies in Abuja, emphasizing the urgency of the tasks.

“While receiving my deployment letter, I was given very clear instructions by His Excellency, Mr. President, as well as the Head of Service of the Federation. These are two tasks to achieve within this period: to ensure that Air Nigeria becomes a reality and to sanitise our airports across the country,” he stated.

The Nigeria Air project, originally launched in 2018, has faced significant delays and controversies, but Dr. Kana stressed its importance as part of the President’s “renewed hope” agenda.

He highlighted the need for a national carrier to support economic development and improve the nation’s global standing.

“All of us will agree that there is no better time to have an Air Nigeria than now. It is a critical component of our national development and economic transformation,” he added.

In addition to the national carrier, Dr. Kana underlined the President’s directive to modernise Nigerian airports to meet international standards. Acknowledging the existing challenges, he promised to work closely with the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, and other stakeholders to address inefficiencies, improve infrastructure, and enhance passenger experience.

Dr. Kana called for collaboration among ministry staff and aviation agencies to achieve these goals, expressing his determination to deliver tangible results.

“The aviation sector is critical to our nation’s economy, image, and global competitiveness. Together, we will ensure that Nigeria Air becomes a reality and that our airports are sanitised and modernised to meet global standards,” he affirmed.
