President Bola Tinubu reiterated his dedication to advancing judicial reforms in West Africa during a meeting with the ECOWAS Judicial Council delegation led by Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
The meeting took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
President Tinubu emphasized the crucial role of integrity and accountable judicial systems in strengthening democracy across the region. He assured the delegation of his commitment to transformative democracy, highlighting the judiciary’s role in protecting democratic values.
Tinubu commended the judges from member-states who participated in the council meeting in Abuja, applauding the successful conclusion of their deliberations. He assured them that their recommendations would be given utmost consideration by the Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS.
Justice Ariwoola, speaking on behalf of the ECOWAS Judicial Council, reiterated the Council’s commitment to enhancing the ECOWAS judicial system’s effectiveness.
He announced the establishment of two sub-committees to address key judiciary-related issues in the region, including the inadequacies in the Council’s rules of procedure and the enforcement of judgments issued by the Community Court.
