The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive for the immediate deployment of a mobile police unit to the Kuriga community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
This action follows the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in the area.
In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Egbetokun announced the deployment during his visit to Kaduna State to assess the situation firsthand. He was accompanied by the Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Force Intelligence Department, Habu Sani.
Expressing sympathy for the affected individuals and the state government, Egbetokun assured of the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted students. He emphasized the use of both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in the operation.
In response, Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, pledged the state government’s support for the deployed mobile police unit. He also called on the media to engage in responsible journalism during this crisis period.
During his visit, the IGP also met with police officers at the Police Command and the Police College in Kaduna. He addressed their concerns and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to their welfare, aiming to establish a police institution that is service-driven, professionally competent, and people-friendly.
Egbetokun underscored the critical nature of the task ahead for the Nigeria Police Force and urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement and other relevant security agencies.
