In a show of solidarity and recognition of the invaluable contributions of teachers, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and his Kwara State counterpart, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, have declared Monday a work-free day for teachers in both public and private schools across their respective states.
The announcement was made as part of celebrations for this year’s World Teachers’ Day, observed globally every October 5.
In a statement by the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. Kolapo Alimi, Governor Adeleke emphasized that the work-free day was intended to honor and celebrate the hard work and dedication of teachers in the state.
According to Alimi, the gesture reflects the governor’s recognition of the pivotal role teachers play in shaping the future of the education sector, both within Osun State and on a global scale.
Governor Adeleke, in his message to the state’s teachers, expressed deep appreciation for their efforts: “I, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, the Executive Governor of Osun State, heartily congratulate all teachers around the world, particularly those in my dear state, Osun, on the annual occasion of World Teachers’ Day, celebrated every 5th of October.”
He further highlighted the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of teachers and ensuring that their efforts in nurturing the next generation of leaders do not go unnoticed.
Similarly, in Kwara State, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, announced that Monday had been designated as a holiday for teachers across the state.
The directive, which applies to both public and private schools, was issued in honor of World Teachers’ Day and the significant role teachers play in advancing human progress.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq also commended teachers for their relentless efforts in imparting knowledge and fostering the intellectual growth of students.
“Teachers are at the forefront of human development, and their contribution to society is immeasurable. This holiday is a small token of our appreciation for their hard work,” the governor stated.
