Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi says President Bola Tinubu should step aside before the 2027 elections, insisting the current administration has failed to effectively confront Nigeria’s economic hardship and insecurity

Speaking during an interview on Sunday Politics, Obi said Tinubu’s current leadership has failed to tackle rising insecurity, poverty and hardship, adding that the President should retire and allow new leadership to take over.

Obi also criticised the government’s priorities, saying key issues such as out-of-school children, healthcare and accountability for public funds are not receiving the attention they deserve.

While acknowledging international recognition of Tinubu’s security efforts, Obi maintained that Nigerians have yet to see meaningful improvements. He added that his interest in the presidency is driven by a desire to rebuild the country, insisting he is “not desperate to be president” but committed to seeing Nigeria work.
