The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has reaffirmed the Corps’ unwavering commitment to the Federal Government’s Safe Schools Initiative, while commending the professionalism, resilience, and effective collaboration of the Joint Security Team that successfully rescued the 44 abducted pupils and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The victims, who were abducted by terrorists on May 15, 2026, were rescued during an intelligence-led operation involving the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the NSCDC.

Audi described the successful operation as evidence of the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and intelligence sharing in tackling insecurity. He said the rescue reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting schools, combating terrorism, and safeguarding lives and property.

The NSCDC boss also assured Nigerians that the Corps would continue to strengthen the security of schools and other critical national infrastructure through intelligence gathering, strategic deployment of personnel, community engagement, and collaboration with other security agencies.

He urged members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information, stressing that protecting the country is a shared responsibility.
