The National Sports Commission (NSC) has approved the public release of an investigative
report examining the controversies that marred Nigeria’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic
and Paralympic Games. The decision was made shortly after Mr. Shehu Dikko took office as
NSC Chairman, following a formal request from Dr. Mumini Alao, who chaired the investigative
committee.
The investigation was initially commissioned by former Minister of Sports Development,
Senator John Owan Enoh, and the committee submitted its findings to Enoh on October 22,
2024.
The presentation, initially scheduled for October 25, was postponed following Enoh’s
reassignment to a different ministerial position by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Mr. Dikko,
upon assuming his new role, quickly endorsed the report’s release, prioritizing transparency and
addressing the concerns raised about Nigeria’s Olympic and Paralympic efforts.
The report aims to shed light on the factors that contributed to the negative publicity and
challenges experienced during the games, providing a foundation for reform and improvement in
future international sporting events.
