The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Retail Limited (NNPC Retail Ltd.) has firmly denied allegations circulating on social media that a fuel pump attendant coerced customers into purchasing lubricants or engine oil as a prerequisite for buying petrol.
In a statement released on Sunday, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., Olufemi Soneye, addressed the situation, stating, “The attention of NNPC Retail Limited has been drawn to a recent video clip making rounds on social media (X to be precise) concerning a fuel pump attendant at one of our filling stations.”
The video in question showed customers being compelled to buy lubricants or engine oil before being allowed to purchase or dispense Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol. The attendant in the video claimed this was a directive from NNPC Retail Management.
NNPC Retail has unequivocally refuted these allegations, emphasizing that such practices do not align with the company’s Customer Service Charter. “We do not condone any form of coercion or unethical sales practices at our filling stations,” the statement read.
Managing Director of NNPC Retail Ltd., Mr. Huub Stokman, also commented on the incident, reinforcing the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction. “We are dedicated to providing clear, transparent, and quality service to all our customers, guaranteeing that their needs are met without any recourse to unnecessary and unscrupulous conditionalities,” he said.
NNPC Retail has urged the public to disregard the misinformation and report any such occurrences to the appropriate authorities. An investigation has been launched into the incident, and NNPC Retail assures the public that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against those involved.
The corporation reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the highest standards of service and integrity, ensuring that all customers receive fair treatment at its filling stations across the country.
