Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a 30 percent reduction in fares for the Lagos Red Line train service in a move aimed at making intra-city rail transport more affordable for residents of Nigeria’s most populous city.
With the fare reduction, passengers will now pay ₦1,000 per trip instead of the previous ₦1,500, easing transportation costs for daily commuters. The governor made this announcement on Tuesdayduring the commissioning of a newly constructed bus station in Abule Egba, a suburb of Agege.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the price cut is part of his administration’s broader strategy to enhance public transportation and reduce the financial burden on Lagosians, especially in light of economic challenges such as inflation and rising living costs.
“We understand the financial strain many Lagosians face daily, and we remain committed to making public transport more accessible and affordable. This fare reduction will encourage more residents to use the Red Line, easing congestion on the roads,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
